I approve of with skygypsy that with the price of gold being what it is that there is no such thing as cheap gold.
What you can do if you want cheap is to haunt the thrift stores and garage sales. You can then cannibalize old pieces with fine beads and charms. You also get the added bonus for the clasps. Some of the old pieces have really ornate and interesting findings and clasps.
